Restoration

The engine and all internal operating parts have been professionally rebuilt and restored to new original condition. The engine and transmission have been broken in and test driven 500 miles since completion. All engine work was professionally performed at a machine shop specializing in classic car engines. All restoration work was performed with originality as the primary goal. This was achieved through all facets of the restoration process. Only correct factory specifications and correct original GM, or high quality original replacement OEM parts were used.

Engine

The engine rebuild started with the standard bore 3970010 engine block dated 1-31-1970 with original assembly date on front pad V0206 CTB. New Original replacement 11-1 Forged Pistons were installed. Original forged steel crankshaft & original forged steel (pink rods) were cleaned, magnafluxed, and sized. All internal parts were balanced prior to final assembly. The block is now .30 over. New original LT-1 Z/28 Spec cam and new solid lifters were installed. New timing chain and gears. Chrome molly rings. New hi quality cam, rod and main bearings. New hardened rod & main cap bolts. Original GM windage tray and a new oil pump. Original correct Z/28 oil pan with the factory baffles.

Heads

The Cylinder Heads are original 186 2.02 Z/28 heads. Date code A-28-70. They were completely rebuilt and restored to original LT-1 specs. Hot tanked, magnafluxed, and professionally machined. New valve guides. Assembly included all new parts. Valves, springs, retainers, keepers and original (new) rockers, hardened push rods, new hardened studs and new hardened guide plates. New GM Head bolts. These heads are as good as new and completely correct. Professionally done. Posi locks were used instead of standard rocker nuts to ensure proper valve lash adjustment remains unchanged.

The intake manifold is the correct Winters 3972110 1970 intake manifold. The original correct Holley 4555 - 780 CFM Carb was professionally restored & rebuilt. Restored original 692 water pump rebuilt and new. The car also comes set up with an original restored holley 4150 780 vacuum secondary special carb. This carb was specifically tuned and set up to run on this engine. Perfect idle and better performance. It’s identical to the original restored 4555 which also goes with the car.

AIR System

Original restored AIR system. Correct with all original brackets and correct original exhaust manifolds. New heater hoses, power steering hoses, upper and lower radiator hoses were also installed with new correct OEM style GM hose clamps. Power steering pump has been reconditioned. Original pulleys, harmonic ballancer and timing cover.

Muncie M-22 Rock Crusher

This is an all original but (non matching numbers) Muncie M-22 transmission that was professionally rebuilt and restored. Correct coarse spline 1970 Camaro input shaft. Completed in January of 09 with the following pars replaced. New gears, input and output shafts, syncros, bearings and seals. New clutch pressure plate & throw out bearing. All new hardware including pressure plate and flywheel bolts. The original drive shaft was balanced and new u-joints installed. The original 12 bolt rear end is the original 12 bolt 373 with Positraction gears that came with this car installed by the factory. It remains in excellent condition. Cleaned and checked, new fluid installed.

Body Restoration

We selected a professional shop with over 30 years experience restoring classic cars. They completely stripped the car down to bear metal. One area required attention. The lower rear passenger side quarter was replaced. All surfaces were then primed and painted using PPG materials. The end result is an outstanding show quality paint job. This took over two months to complete, it was not rushed. The fit and finish are Great.

Body & Suspension

Original Rear leaf Springs are correct original factory 5 leaf, they remain in great condition. New OEM rear shocks were installed. New front OEM shocks, & correct replacement F-41 front springs were installed along with new control arm bushings. New stabilizer links and a four-wheel alignment complete the suspension restoration. The sub frame and all under body panels remain all original and in Great condition (with no rust). I was originally informed that the car was repainted only once, 15 years ago.

Wheels, Brakes & Tires

The front calipers were checked and new pads installed. The rear brakes were rebuilt with new wheel cylinders and springs and shoes. These brakes stop on a dime. New P235 60R-15 Goodyear Tires with only 250 miles. The Original Z/28 wheels were restored to original like new condition with the original trim rings and original correct center caps.

Interior

Original factory deluxe Hounds tooth seats (option code 713) which are still in excellent original condition. This car was also equipped with the deluxe interior option including the center console & wood grain interior panels all of which are in greatt condition. All of the original interior panels are in great original condition. New carpet was installed.

All new dual exhaust system, transverse original stock (flowmaster) muffler with deep original sound (not to loud) completes the exhaust restoration to factory original condition.

This 1970 RS Z/28 is now in perfect restored showroom condition. Nothing was left incomplete or untouched. I have not listed every detail and every component that was checked, inspected and restored on the car. Many hours of work went into returning this car to perfect condition. This car runs and drives better than any other Z/28 I have owned or driven.
